Welcome to V ! The world-wide leader in weapon R&D.
We need you to gather important combat information for our five new products by destroying them in real battle in our testing ground.
Mayhem is a multiplayer fast FPS DOOM total conversion mod, featuring a randomly generated map and five different classes with unique weapon and abilities.
Multiplayer
Mayhem is exclusively multiplayer, however you can start a game by yourself to test the map and the classes in solo.
The game can host 8 players maximum, and require a local connection to work (or a VPN).
The game can be played in peer-to-peer mode (recommanded for 2 players) or in master/slave mode (recommanded with 3+ players), to set up a multiplayer game, just follow the in-prompt instruction when you launch either the STARTSERVER.BAT to host a game or CONNECT.BAT to connect to a host.
Classes
The Hornet battler class is a middle range class equipped with a high-precision gatling gun, a grenade launcher, a javelin launcher and a spike.
Special ability: Free flying
Topo modifier: Dig a hole of 2 hex radius, if the hole gets to altitude 0, from Hard difficulty setting, the hexes' floor become hazardous (insta-kill if touch)
Overload: Stops movement then charge a special explosive javelin gatling gun and fires rapidely for 2 seconds
First attack: Fires an explosive javelin and a low-accuracy burst from the gatling gun, then if the fire is held, the gatling goes in high-accuracy full-auto mode
Second attack: Launches three grenades in a triangle shape
Third attack: Uses the spear into a low-damage paralysing lunge
Fourth attack: Launches a sticky mine with a maximum countdown of 4 seconds
The Scorpion battler class is a middle range class equipped with four gatling guns and two rocket launchers.
Special ability: Invincibility
Topo modifier: Raise a small height hill in a large radius
Overload: Stops movement then charge for 2 seconds a nuclear nuke with a high damage and large radius, watch out to not kill yourself
First attack: After a short wind-up time, fires the four gatling guns in a stream of bullet
Second attack: Launches two rockets
Third attack: Fires burst of bullets from the gatling guns
Fourth attack: Charges a barrage fire of mini-rockets while the trigger is held, up to 24 shots, on trigger release fires all the charged shots
The Firebrat battler class is a long range class equipped with two blasters and a long range laser cannon.
Special ability: Invisibilty
Topo modifier: Raise a high pillar of one hex width
Overload: Stops movement then fire a huge laser beam for 2 seconds that goes through wall
First attack: Fires with the two blasters low-speed high-damage plasma projectiles
Second attack: Charges the laser cannon, after a small charge time and the release of the trigger, fires a high-damage laser that goes through walls
Third attack: Fires with the two blasters low-speed low-damage plasma balls in a helix pattern, the balls will launch backwards the hit enemy
Fourth attack: Fires an explosive enery ball from the laser cannon
The Mantis battler class is a short range class equipped with two cannons and two chainsaws.

Map
The map is generating a new config every 5 minutes and 30 seconds, based on the current difficulty.
- Easy - Easy to navigate, just aim, shoot and dodge your opponents, recommended for just 2 players
- Medium - Aim, shoot, dodge and watch your steps
- Hard - Deadly pits now, recommanded for 3+ players
- Expert - And now some parts of the terrain will change gravity, does damage, etc...
- Master - And now there is also fog to limit vision, recommanded with 8 experimented players
Each difficulty has their own themes, each theme will be randomly chosen with each map generation, with a theme "random playlist" style.
There is a voting mechanic which can alter the map generation, there is four voting option.
- Keeping the map - will reset the countdown to the next map generation to 330 seconds
- Changing the map - will set the countdown to 0 and immediatly change the map
- Upgrading difficulty - will increase the difficulty of all the next map generation, you can open a "Changing the map" vote to apply the difficulty immediatly
- Downgrading difficulty - will decrease the difficulty ine the same fashion
Modding
As Mayhem is a standalone mod for GZDoom you can modify the PK3 of the game, but for personnal use only, the only modification that can be distributed freely is the modification of the map predefined config (aka. the map generation themes, more info in the FDMMAP03.WAD, open with GZDoomBuilder, in UDMF format, check the script editor, in the MAYHEM.PK3 archive). Please note that this mod was done in 2014, so it is VERY outdated compared to the nowadays modding with GZDoom, I clean it a bit in 2020 and I release it now, I have no real future plan with it now as a new Mayhem game will be developped in the future (not a mod this time, GZDoom has some strong limits, and this mod was just a thing I did for fun, like the trillions mods I have in stock built in 10+ years of modding Doom, but none of them are as complete as this one).
